Handwriting Without Tears

Dear PCLC Parent(s),

Presentation Childhood Learning Center uses the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum.  This curriculum is specifically designed for preschool children to get ready for kindergarten.  For years grade school teachers have been asking for preschools to do a better job preparing children's handwriting prior to formal school training.  We feel this program is the answer.  It is an informal, multi-sensory approach that will help children of all ages learn to write legibly, without a daunting formal process that is inappropriate for young preschoolers.

Ultimately we'd like every child to leave PCLC able to produce legible and fluent handwriting.  Handwriting should be an automatic skill that is easy and fun!  Kindergartners and first graders should be ready to write.  Often times if children learn letter formation on their own, they form several letters incorrectly and its difficult to' undo bad habits. Throughout the school year, we will provide instruction regarding proper grip, the best posture for writing, where to start the letters, and adequate review of each new letter and skill obtained.  Materials are fun and designed for young children.  Some of the materials we will be using include wood pieces, play-dough, chalk boards, and a stamp-n-see screen. Instruction will occur during your child's regular center time at preschool, pre-kindergarten or kindergarten class-time.

Thanks for choosing PCLC this school year.  We look forward to providing the best in early childhood development and curriculum methods.

Sincerely,
Lyn W. Haselmann, Director
Presentation Childhood Learning Center
