Altar Servers

Altar servers help the Presider during the mass so the Presider may give his full attention to leading the congregation through the celebration.

Specific responsibilities are to carry the cross, the processional candles, hold the Sacramentary or other prayer book for the priest celebrant when he is not at the altar, prepare the altar for the Liturgy of the Eucharist, help with hand washing of the priest during the preparation of the gifts, and assist the priest celebrant and deacon as necessary.

Altar servers are needed to serve for daily Mass, weekend liturgies, special liturgies, funerals, and Stations of the Cross.

In order to participate in this ministry, requirements include the following:

1. Received First Eucharist;
2. Be of fifth grade school level student or older;
3. Attend formation and training;
4. Commit to serving at least one mass each month.
